Fire Extinguisher

Fire is the most common serious hazard that one faces in his life at any point of time at any location. While proper procedure and training can minimize the chances of an accidental fire, you must still be prepared to deal with a fire emergency.

Fire extinguishers contain different chemicals, depending on the application. Handheld extinguishers, which are commonly use in the kitchen or garage, are pressurized with nitrogen or carbon dioxide (CO2) to propel a stream of fire-squelching agent to the fire. The active material may be a powder such as potassium bicarbonate (KHCO3),
liquid water and a gas based clean agent or the propelling agent itself.

Based
on the class of fire various kind of fire extinguishers are designed:

Foam-based fire extinguisher

This kind of fire extinguishers is best suited for oil and plastic based fire. Oil and plastic can flow hence need a product which could cover the layer of oil or plastic /rubber. This kind of extinguishers make a vacuous film on oil and plastic/rubber and results in the cut off the oxygen supply to the fuel. In this way, foam extinguishes the fire. Clean agent

A clean agent is a gas which has very negligible or no effect on ozone and does not have any such effect on human life if it gets operated in the human-occupied area. So, this gas is widely used on class E kind of fire, like computers, servers, or any other location where we do not want any residue to remain left after extinguishing the fire.
